Ah that's a neat idea!
How would we pick which post to link to? We have up to 28 posts per day...
yeah, that's the part I don't quite know about.
I don't know how hard this would be, but maybe you could set it up based on 1/2 hour segments. I've noticed that in the morning, the blog updates about every 45 minutes, and then around noon it updates about every half hour. You have the timestamp for every archived post, so maybe you could set up a conditional based on the timestamp, and meter it for every 1/2 hour, on the 1/2 hour.
Ex: if a post goes up at 8:32 am, the "one year ago, today" button would link to any post that was archived for the same date, a year previous, between the time of 8:30am and 9:00am. If a post goes up at 9:40 am, the "one year ago, today" button would link to any post that was archived for the same date, a year previous, between the time of 9:30 and 10:00am. If there is more than 1 post in a 1/2 timeframe, you could just link to the date in the archive (morning or afternoon, maybe?).
Does that sound like something feasible? I don't know what kind of software you guys use. I was trained in FORTRAN (really!), and I imagine this would just be a couple of IF-loops.
Likewise, you could just link to the date, and display it like the bees' archives are currently shown (15-ish posts per page).
I like the idea of linking to the date... but then it's not as exciting a link to click on, if it doesn't have a title of the post there?
I think it's still exciting - what were bees (that I, as a reader, probably don't know of) doing last year at this time? I don't think knowing the title of the post would either help or hinder traffic flow - the idea being, as a reader, "I want more information on what brides were planning/thinking about/etc in xxx month" Trends have changed a little bit, but the way brides deal with the ebb and flow of planning doesn't, much. Right now I don't think there's much push for readers to look at the archives of past bees, when they (the archives) could prove to be useful today, too.
I used to manually write this feature! interesting idea... we'll have to think about it!
I love this idea! One of my favorites on other blogs, and helps to give some extra reading material and find older bees!

I think linking to past posts by the date would increase the traffic on the site.
I don't know exactly how this would work though, seeing as how there are multiple posts every day.
I'm thinking of the same style that smitten kitchen uses -

(also - two years ago, three years ago...)
This could totally be helpful to brides planning from a seasonal perspective
